DEUS CONVUCOU um animal dos campos e lhe disse “Olhem para as pessoas criadas a minha imagem. Portanto adorem-nas. Vão as proteger no meio selvagem, pastorear os seus rebanhos, cuidar dos seus filhos, acompanhá-las onde quiserem ir – mesmo na civilização. Serão seus companheiros, aliados e escravos.
“Para fazerem estas coisas,” Deus disse, “Concede-vos instintos incomuns aos outros animais: lealdade, devoção e compreensão que ultrapassa as próprias pessoas. Com uma coragem impar, nunca anteciparás a tua própria morte. Com, uma lealdade impar, serás cego ao ver as falhas das pessoas. Com uma compreensão impar, te será negado o poder das palavras. Que a falha na linguagem não te impeça a compreensão de outros animais ou outras pessoas. Fala com as tuas pessoas com a tua mente e olhar honesto.
“Caminha ao seu lado; dorme nas suas portas; descobre por eles, guarda-os dos seus inimigos; carrega os seus fardos; partilha as suas aflições; ama-os e conforta-os. Em retorno disto, as pessoas preencherão as vossas necessidades e desejos – que serão apenas comida, abrigo e afeição.
“Sê então silenciosos, e amigos das pessoas. Guiem-nos através desta terra que lhes prometi. Isto será o vosso destino e imortalidade.”Assim falou o Senhor.

GOD SUMMONED a beast from the fields and He said “Behold people created in my image. Therefore adore them. You shall protect them in the wilderness, shepherd their flocks, watch over their children, accompany them wherever they may go – even into civilization. You shall be a companion, an ally, a slave.
“To do these things,” God said, “I endow you with instincts uncommon to their beasts: faithfulness, devotion and understanding surpassing people. Lest it impair your courage, you shall never foresee your death. Lest it impair your loyalty, you shall be blind to faults of people. Lest it impair your understanding, you are denied the power of words. Let no fault of language cleave an accord beyond that of people with any other beast – or even people with other people. Speak to your people only with your mind through your honest eyes.
“Walk by their sides; sleep in their doorways; forage for them; ward of their enemies; carry their burdens; share their afflictions; love them and comfort them. And in return for this, people will fulfil your needs and wants – which shall be only food, shelter and affection.
“So be silent, and be a friend to people. Guide them along the way to this land that I have promised them. This shall be your destiny and your immortality.” So spoke the Lord.
